CHRIST OUR HOPE

Pope Benedict's theme for his visit to America is "Christ is our Hope."  Our Faith is not is not based on mathematical formulas or a set of rules and regulations we fails to keep and so not achieve our goals or dreams.  "Our Faith" he says, "is simple."  God loves us through his Son Jesus Christ and calls us to share his joyful living.  We in return are to have three loves, love of God, love of self and love of neighbour.  Simple but hard to practise especially the middle love.

VOTING &  LOCAL ELECTIONS

The number of people bothering to vote in the local elections is getting less each year.  Yet the local Town Hall has more input into our quality of life than the national government.  Police, hospitals, schools, cleansing, fortnightly wheelies, road safety, libraries, all these amenities come directly under the local authority.  Please study what the Council needs to do in your area and vote accordingly.  Do vote though it is a precious gift.

Year 6 & Vocations

Dr. Barnado
Dr. Barnado's vocation was, to look after poor children, which lived on the street.  His full name was Dr. Thomas John Barnado.  He was well known for his homes and training schemes.  Thomas John Barnado lived from 1845 to 1905.  He was born in Dublin in 1845 he spent some of his life in London.  His schooling including Sunday school and St Patrick's School Dublin.  When his 16th birthday was approaching, he taught in a ragged school in Dublin.  He became a member of Dublin's Y.M.C.A and did some talks there.

A story has been told that one night a child in need of a place to sleep came to Dr. Barnado's home where he let abandoned children sleep, but it was full so he turned him away.  2 days later, they found that very same boy dead in a gutter.  So never again did Dr. Barnado turn away a child.  In 1873, Dr. Barnado married Syrie Louise Elmslie they met at a meeting when she invited him to speak at a meeting.  In conclusion, that is how Dr Barnado became a hero to some children.

Mother Teresa
Mother Teresa was a famous catholic Nun, who was born on August 27th 1910.

She was the youngest of the three children, and her family were Albanian.  From about 12 years old, she knew she had a vocation, to help the poor.  She began her religious training in 1931 as a novice Sister in Dublin and made her first vows there.  In 1947, she took her final vows and took the religious title Mother Teresa.  She taught geography and religion and in September 1948, she received a calling from God to serve him by helping people, especially the poor.  She received permission from the Pope to go to Calcutta in India.

She started her own school for the homeless children.  Two years later, she opened a home for the lepers and got an orphanage.  Mother Teresa and her order opened many similar homes, all over the world.  In 1983, she had a heart attack, and her health never recovered.  She died in 1997, aged 87

Theme:
Christ is our route to the Father

To have seen Jesus Christ is to have seen the Father.  He will lead us in the way of life by the truth.  The truth is that Jesus Christ and the Father are alive, wanting us to join them in their way of life.  We are blessed, because we have the life of Jesus Christ and the Father in us.  "The Holy Spirit" is the life that binds Jesus to his Father, and that same Spirit bonds us to them.  Therefore, what Jesus said about himself and his Father we may say about ourselves too.  "To have seen us, is to have seen the Father."  This is a great privilege for us, but also, a great responsibility.  We have to make sure that the Father can be seen clearly in our, daily lives.
